Communities suffer when local news disappears. And because of economic and technological trends, local news is disappearing in more and more place. As a result, people are lacking the news and information they need to sustain healthy local democracies and economies.

Communities can meet their own local news and information needs by publicly funding media that promotes civic engagement and helps people stay informed about what’s going on in their community.
